From the Editor's Desk

Welcome to the Autumn / Winter edition of Joanna’s Health and Beauty News.

This edition features the article “Alkalize or die” describing the importance of keeping your body pH balanced.

The new addition to the treatment menu - Ionic Heavy Metal Testing (IHMT) has become a very popular way to maintain my clients’ well being. This test can help you identify your toxicity levels in order to provide the solutions to overcome them.

In the Herb (nutrients) corner you will discover the tremendous power of the body’s own antioxidant, glutathione, that diminishes when we grow older, stressed, or become ill.

In Tips for the season you will find remedies to help resolve the health problems you may experience.

I hope to see most of you in coming months.

Good health from the inside out

Alkalize or die

Environmental pollution, modern agricultural practices, smoking, stress, processed food, too much sugar and meat, coffee and alcohol over the years has taken a serious toll on our body’s biochemistry. When we are healthy our body works tirelessly to eliminate metabolic acidic toxins in order to protect our organs and fluids; for example our blood pH level must be sustained between 7.35 and 7.45 even if it means putting stress on other parts, such as leaching calcium from our bones or magnesium from our muscles in order to keep the blood alkaline.

The overload of the acidic toxins can overwhelm the body's ability to neutralize them. Its buffering system becomes deficient, the ph buffers such as alkaline minerals become depleted causing acids to build up and we begin to lose energy and vitality. We may experience weight gain, irritability, inflammation, poor circulation, acid reflux, irregular bowel movements, skin problems, allergies,  joint pain, arthritis, gout and more. Over time the microforms and pathogens can start to grow and proliferate in the body. These critters such as fungi like yeasts and Candida and anaerobic bacteria like helicobacter pylori excrete even more toxins and acids into the system.

Urine pH and saliva pH tests are indicators for acid/alkaline balance in our body.

Now I can offer you this complementary test to check your acid /alkaline balance.

You can even test at home your drinking water, which should be alkaline (pH 7+).
Please refer to my Autumn/Winter 2007 Newsletter about clean living water.

Our environment is polluted with ionic metals and we are not even aware of their existence. They are unavoidable in our modern times; we are continually inhaling and ingesting acidic toxins present in water, dust, paint, soil, etc. They are the ionic- electrically charged metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and also iron, nickel, zinc and copper, which can stick to the cells, like hairs stick to a balloon, building up to toxic levels and increasing free radical production a million fold.

Free Radicals are molecules that are over-reactive because they are unbalanced electronically – with unpaired electrons. In attempting to become balanced they constantly steal electrons from the molecules that make up the cells in our bodies, destroying or damaging them.

The conversion of food into energy and heat (ATP activity) in our bodies is accomplished in tiny ‘spark plugs’ within each of our cells called mitochondria. When we are young we have up to 2000 of these spark plugs in every cell but as we age this is reduced to only 1000, a drop of 50%. A significant cause of this deterioration is the accumulation of destructive free radicals causing oxidative stress that disables enzymes and other chemicals. This results in reduced cellular metabolic activity, the accumulation of cellular debris, and eventual death of the cell.

Acidic toxins in the body create avalanches of free radicals since they have a large number of positively charged hydrogen ions in them.  Every time when the molecule loses an electron; cell structure is damaged and the cell’s ability to function is reduced, and over time will cause extensive damage to cell’s mitochondria including DNA; also proteins and lipid cells membrane, resulting in inflammation, which causes gradual, progressive cellular havoc. The latest scientific research reveals that cellular inflammation is the basis of all kinds of diseases.

Oxygen is necessary for survival; it is a fuel that we burn in metabolic processes, creating the oxidation that produces the most detrimental hydroxyl radical.

Just as metal can rust with age, our bodies can “rust” due to damage from free radicals. Wherever this “rust” is in the arteries, brain, liver or pancreas, it will cause respectively arteriosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, cirrhosis or diabetes.

Also in aged, wrinkled skin the cells become rigid due to that “rusting damage” caused by the free radicals.

Antioxidants are the body's major defense against free radicals and oxidative stress. They neutralize free radicals by supplying them with the electron they lack. There are various types of antioxidants; they are not all created equal. Examples of antioxidant nutrients are Vitamins A, C & E, minerals zinc and selenium and most importantly glutathione.

The glutathione works as the master antioxidant in our body, optimizes the white blood cells and detoxifies a long list of pollutants and acids, it also increases mitochondrial ATP activity while protecting the cell from oxidative stress.

Regardless of the type of free radical, glutathione has the ability to properly match up and neutralize it, thus increasing cellular protection and function. It recycles the other antioxidants, which are dependent upon the presence of glutathione to function properly.

People with high acidity often develop cellulite and experience difficulty in weight loss, even with a moderate calorie intake. The reason is that the fat in the body binds the overflowing acids and toxins. Your body simply dumps these poisons into fat cells in order to protect your organs and fluids. Cellulite that appears as fat dimples is the storage place of these toxins.

I can’t overstate the importance of the correction of acid-alkaline imbalances; it will not only improve your health and well- being, but it will help metabolize your body fat more efficiently. When your body becomes free of excess acidic toxins, there may be no reason to hold onto that excess fat.

In our more and more polluted environment, we need to be sure that ionic metals do not accumulate in our body, and that we can chelate and electromagnetically neutralize these metals.

The Ionic Heavy Metal Test (IHMT) was developed for the detection of ionic mercury, lead, zinc, copper, cadmium and other transition metals in our environment and our bodies. IHMT helps to evaluate and monitor the way in which the body copes with environmental, ionic, electromagnetically active metals.

If you would like to have more extensive information, please visit www.harmonology.com.au
(If you cannot click the full URL above, please copy and paste it into your web browser).

The Ionic Heavy Metal Test (IHMT) is now available in the clinic. This simple, fast and inexpensive chemical test  visually proves to the patient how chelation works.

If I may be of assistance, I would be pleased to suggest the solution to chelate (make electrically neutral) your ionic heavy metals.

I will also provide you with guidelines towards a healthy lifestyle, which will help alkalize your body.

Herb (Nutrients) corner: The power of Glutathione

Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide, produced naturally in the body, and is the body’s most powerful, prevalent antioxidant. Glutathione is present in nearly all living cells and is composed of three amino acids, cysteine, glutamic acid and glycine.

In the last few years, over 20,000 medical articles about this substance have been published and the researches have shown that GSH levels decline by 8% to 12% per decade, beginning at the age of 20. Levels of glutathione are further reduced by continual stress upon the immune system such as illness, infection, and environmental toxins.

Our main organs of detoxification of acidic waste products are the lymphatic system and the liver. These are the body's most concentrated source of glutathione.

Our liver is like a washing machine, and glutathione like a good quality washing detergent cleansing our acidic toxins.

This means that our life depends on glutathione.  Without it, our cells would disintegrate from oxidizing stress, our bodies would have little resistance to metabolic acids, and our liver would deteriorate from the eventual accumulation of acidic toxins.

In a nutshell, we can state that glutathione maintains three crucial functions:

  1. Anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory- protecting all cells against the destructive effects of free radicals and oxidative stress while increasing mitochondrial ATP activity to convert food into cellular energy.

  2. Blood Booster -enhancing immunologic function through its influence on lymphocytes, prostaglandin synthesis, and amino acid transport. Elevated glutathione levels enable the body to produce more white blood cells.  White blood cells are the body's garbage collectors and are the most important cells for maintaining sterility of the body fluids.

  3. Cell Detoxifier- detoxifying external substances such as drugs, environmental pollutants and carcinogens; maintaining cell membrane stability; regulating protein and DNA biosynthesis and cell growth. Glutathione binds to toxins, forming a water-soluble complex - which is easily excreted in the urine or bile as a waste product.

Glutathione is always in great demand and is rapidly consumed when we experience any sort of emotional or physical stress, fatigue and even moderate exercise. Research has also shown that individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness.

Each and every cell in the body is responsible for its own supply of glutathione and must have the necessary raw materials in order to produce it.

Supplements containing Glutathione alone will NOT increase the body’s GSH levels. It is pointless to purchase supplements that merely contain glutathione, because the stomach acid and enzyme breaks down ingested glutathione and it will not be absorbed into your system.

Dr. Robert H. Keller, one of the world’s leading scientists, dedicated 12 years of research and development investigating a way to naturally optimize the body’s production of glutathione.

Dr Keller said  “As we age or as we get sick, glutathione levels drop like a rock, and the sicker you are the lower they are, and every disease that can be looked at will show you decreased glutathione. So that tells you how important it is.  Glutathione is the repair mechanism for the structures that are necessary for the production of energy in every cell of your body, meaning that it controls the heart, the brain, the thyroid, and any other organ system or any other gland in the body.”

In conclusion please keep in mind that increasing glutathione level will naturally increase your energy, detoxify your body and strengthen your immune system.
Avocado, garlic, onion and raw eggs are good sources of glutathione; they can improve the glutathione reserves by at least 12%.

Tips for the Season.

If you are concerned about free radicals status in your body you may choose to give Joanna’s services a try.

Donate your urine sample for checking the pH balance and for the Ionic Heavy Metal Test (IHMT) – this last is a simple, fast and inexpensive chemical test that visually proves to the patient how chelation works.

If the tests shown an unhealthy range I may be of assistance in taking some necessary steps towards your health improvement such as:

  1. Alkalize your body.
  2. To help your body cope with environmental heavy metals a product in homoeopathic dilution will assist in its attempt to neutralize ionic metals and to reduce Free Radical production.
  3. Change your diet to include more alkalizing foods
  4.  Eliminate microforms and other critters from your body
  5.  Replenish your mineral reserves.
  6.  Take digestive enzymes.
  7.  Replenish the healthy probiotics in your GI tract.

Adequate water intake is a crucial part of detoxification. A dehydrated body will provoke the development of cellular inflammation that causes premature aging. Dehydration is also a major cause of fatigue.

When we give our bodies adequate water (6 to 8 glasses per day – or approximately two quarts), we should notice a decrease in our appetite. Water is essential to fat metabolism.  The more you weigh the more water you need.  An even mildly dehydrated body will cause a 3% drop in baseline metabolism resulting in the gain of one pound of fat every six months.

One of the roles of our liver is to convert stored fat to energy.  Because our kidneys can't function properly without enough water in our systems, the liver steps in and assists kidney function.  This results in the liver not being able to metabolize fats as quickly and efficiently.  As a result, more fat remains stored in the body and weight loss slows.  Studies have shown that if we decrease our water intake our fat deposits will increase.  Conversely, an increase in water intake will reduce fat deposits.

Detoxification has been recognized as a necessary component in obtaining wellness.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbs were used for centuries as an effective detoxification method. They can control the level of hormones such as cortisol and insulin and increase the level of neurotransmitters such as serotonins and endorphins as well as strengthening the body’s immune system to offset flu and colds this season.

Scandinavian sauna often called ‘detox box’ is beneficial for reducing toxin deposits especially of heavy metals, as well as improving skin tone, reducing cellulite and assisting in weight control.

The skin is our largest eliminative organ - the “third kidney”. It is generally considered that the skin should eliminate 30 % of body wastes such as salts, acids and toxins by way of perspiration. Due to the lack of physical work and an overly sedentary life style the skin of most people today has degenerated as an eliminative organ. It is of vital importance that the eliminative activity of the skin is revitalized. Taking a Scandinavian Sauna regularly will help to dispel excess toxins stored in the body cells, such as heavy metals like mercury, lead and cadmium, thus saving your kidneys and liver from overworking.

Dermosonic®  Step 1: U/S – The ultrasonic waves applied around the target area, have the effect of breaking up fibrous tissue, liberating cellulite nodules and also liquefying the jelly-like fluid and fat deposit that has trapped the toxins. The warming effect of ultrasound dilates the capillaries that improve blood circulation, and assists reabsorbtion of local swelling.

Step 2: Non Invasive Subdermal Therapy (NIST) physically stimulates and massages your target area using varying levels of suction, combined with drainage manipulations. This further eliminates cellulite along with toxins through the lymphatic system and capillaries.

Lymphatic drainage air pressomassage effectively targets cellulite deposits and lymphatic congestion, thus clearing cellular waste and helping to decongest the vascular and lymphatic circulation. The lymphatic system plays a fundamental role in clearing acidic debris from the tissues of the body. Effective liver restoration and tissue detoxification is dependent on the immune and lymphatic systems. Poor lymphatic function promotes acidic toxin accumulation, resulting in damage to individual cells and organs. Taking the Lymphatic drainage air pressomassage regularly helps detoxify and oxygenate the tissues.

Salt glow body treatment - full body scrub using sea salts sourced from the lowest depression of the Earth, the Dead Sea - the richest source of natural minerals and trace elements. Dead Sea mud wrap called “Cleopatra’s secret”, works as a big poultice that draws out the toxic deposits stored in the adipose tissue as well as infusing the broadest range of minerals (the same minerals found in the ocean and in human blood).

Regular Ionic Heavy Metal Testing (IHMT) is advisable for all of us.

If I may be of assistance, I would be pleased to arrange an appointment at your earliest convenience.

Please take care of yourself because if you don't have your health, then what do you have?
Have a great day
